Create Your First Game
Create a project, try the bundled demo, import fighters, and launch a match.
This guide gets you from an empty dashboard to a playable build. The bundled demo roster, default stage, and default screenpack make the first build possible without importing files.
Before you start
Use a desktop browser. If you want to import your own assets, prepare complete MUGEN character or stage packages that you have permission to use. Compatibility depends on the files and the browser runtime.
1. Open Studio
- Select Open Studio to reach My Games.
- Select Create Game.
- Enter a game name, select Continue, keep the Default screenpack, then select Open Studio.
2. Try a build
Select Build & Play at the top of Studio. With no imported fighters, the bundled demo roster is used. The player opens after the build is saved. You can return to Studio to make changes.
3. Import your own fighters
- Open Characters in the Studio sidebar.
- Select + Import characters for ZIP or RAR packages, or Import character folder for an unpacked folder.
- Check the character card's validation status. Select Add to roster for each fighter you want to play.
- Add at least two active fighters. A single active fighter cannot replace the bundled demo roster.
- In Active roster, use the arrow buttons to set fighter order.
See Importing Characters for package and warning details.
4. Add a stage or adjust settings
Open Stages to import a stage ZIP or folder and choose its place in the stage order. You can leave the default stage in place for your first game. In Game Settings, adjust rounds, timer, difficulty, and keyboard controls if you want.
A custom screenpack is optional. The bundled one works out of the box.
5. Build and play again
Select Build & Play after your changes. If an asset is missing or invalid, read the message in Studio and open Build Reports for the latest saved report. Fix the asset or its references, then build again.
6. Keep a backup
Open Export backup at the bottom of the Studio sidebar, or beside your project on My Games. Keep the downloaded .yourmugen file outside browser storage. On My Games, use Import backup to restore it in this or another browser profile.
