Importing Characters

Add compatible fighters, read validation results, and arrange the active roster.

A character is a fighter package with a .def definition and the files it references. YourMugen accepts character ZIPs, RAR 4 or 5 archives, and folders. Password-protected or multipart RAR files are not supported.

Import a fighter

  1. Open a project and select Characters.
  2. Select + Import characters for ZIP or RAR files, or Import character folder for an unpacked folder.
  3. Read the status on the imported character card. If it is usable, select Add to roster.
  4. Add a second fighter before building your own roster. If the roster is empty, YourMugen uses the bundled demo roster.

The preview is a static sprite thumbnail when the imported sprite format can be decoded. A placeholder does not necessarily mean the fighter cannot play. Animation and every SFF v2 encoding are not previewed yet.

Add palette packs

A palette-only ZIP has .act files but no character .def, so it cannot be imported as a separate fighter. Import the fighter first, then choose Add palettes on that fighter's card and select the palette ZIP. YourMugen adds up to 12 palettes to the character. It fills free pal1–pal12 slots first, then replaces the highest numbered existing slots if needed. The original lower numbered palettes stay in place when possible. Select Build & Play to use the updated character.

Arrange the roster

The Active roster list appears below the fighter library. Use its up and down buttons to reorder fighters. You can choose a fighter's stage or toggle its CPU setting there. Remove from roster keeps the imported file in the library; Delete removes the asset, subject to any saved build that still uses it.

Read validation results

Open Validation details on a card to see warnings and errors. A message such as Missing anim: fighter.air means the character definition points to a file the importer could not find. Check the package, its paths, and file-name casing. A case mismatch may be reported separately.

An incomplete package or missing sprite reference can prevent import or build. Some packages pass validation but still behave differently in the browser runtime. Try a small roster first and check Troubleshooting if a match fails.

YourMugen does not supply third-party characters or grant permission to redistribute them. Use assets under terms that permit your use.
