FAQ & Troubleshooting
Quick answers for imports, builds, performance, local storage, and backups.
Why won't my character or stage import?
Check that the package contains its .def file and referenced sprites and other required files. Open Validation details on the asset card. Missing paths or file-name case mismatches are common causes. Character RAR imports support RAR 4 and 5, but not password-protected or multipart archives.
Why won't the game start?
Read the message in Studio and check Build Reports. A project needs either the bundled demo roster or at least two active imported fighters. Missing screenpack files or unresolved required stage music may also stop a build. If the build succeeds but the player fails, try the bundled screenpack and a smaller roster to isolate an incompatible asset.
Why is performance slow?
The browser loads imported ZIP content into memory for play. Large packages can use substantial memory, and performance varies by device and browser. Try fewer or smaller assets, then rebuild.
Where are my games saved?
Projects, imported assets, and build snapshots are stored locally in IndexedDB in this browser profile. There is no account or automatic cloud sync. Browser data can be cleared or evicted, so this storage is not a permanent backup.
Will clearing browser data delete my projects?
It can. Before clearing site data or changing devices, open your project in Studio and select Export backup at the bottom of the sidebar, or use Export backup beside the project on My Games. Keep the downloaded .yourmugen file somewhere safe. On My Games, select Import backup to restore it. Older JSON backups can still be imported.
Can I use the same projects on another device?
There is no automatic sync. Move a backup file yourself and use Import backup on the other device. The restored project is a separate local copy.
Does YourMugen upload my game files?
No account or asset upload is used by the current Studio. Imported packages and projects stay in browser storage unless you export and share a backup yourself.
What should I include when reporting a bug?
If you have a support contact for YourMugen, include your browser and version, steps to reproduce, and the import or build message. Share only a sanitized log. Do not send copyrighted game assets, personal files, or secrets unless the support team specifically requests them through an appropriate channel.
